Seth teased me by pretending to eat a big slice of apple, as opposed to the small bite that he knows I prefer. I ignored it.
"Seth, they say that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. What do you think that means?"
My interesting tone took his attention away from The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, and he said, "Doctors don't like apples?"
I expected my girlfriend would buy me a birthday coffee; she certainly didn't have to. Instead she showed up at the kiddies' bookstore playdate with a Starbucks gift card and two bars of dark chocolate, which her two children had selected. Well, I've enjoyed them with wild abandon! The gift card is gone. I'm working on the second chocolate bar as I type, and my pants don't fit. Hmmm.
Savannah recycled some little happies she'd made, happy to give them to me for my birthday. It was uneventful this year. But every few years it is a bigger event with a family party. We did have curry which I love, but since I don't have it often, that first bite always gets an eye-roll. I bought myself some birthday shoes. My practical mother always sends a check, and I used that for some purpely-brown quartz earrings. And the e-card from my VOX neighbor gamany was an extra nice surprise! Thank you gamany!
I'd intended for my soup night to coincide with the Chinese New Year as well as my birthday and maybe a game of Taboo, but my soup night steam has really run low. I haven't completely given up on it, just being my moody self.
The sweet potato spears I roasted this evening are perfect. The cauliflower is taking a little longer, although surely worth it. (Both in the toaster oven.) And by cooking the kiddies' meatballs in the same olivey oiled pan as the vegetables, they lap them up :) The seasonal food of the week at whfoods is oranges. We ate so many clementines a month ago, I know the kids won't have anything to do with any citrus. Savannah's into apples right now. I've always liked the Fuji.
